Over a decade ago, Heaven’s Gates Cherry Farm began with 50 baby cherry trees and a dream. Through the years, the farm has seen highs and lows, triumphs and hardships, quiet prayers, long days, and more than a few battles with unpredictable Michigan weather.
The Journey
Heaven’s Gates Cherry Farm began over a decade ago with 50 baby cherry trees and a dream. It was simple at first: plant something meaningful, work the land, and trust that with time, care, and faith, something beautiful would grow.
Like any real farm story, the road was not smooth. Late spring frosts came through and killed buds on the trees before they ever had the chance to become fruit. Some years brought hope. Other years brought hard lessons.
To protect the trees and push the farm forward, high tunnels were erected. They represented progress, protection, and a new chapter for the farm — proof that even after setbacks, we were still willing to build.
Then came the kind of Michigan snow that does not ask permission. The weight collapsed the high tunnels and smashed most of the cherry trees. It was one of those moments where you either quit or you dig in deeper.
Through it all, we kept moving. Apple trees were added. Nectarine trees were added. Thousands of Earliglow strawberry plants joined the farm. A beautiful garden began taking shape. What started as a dream slowly became a place filled with life.
We kept our heads high, prayers strong, and bodies working. Heaven’s Gates Cherry Farm has blossomed into what it is today because of faith, family, hard work, and the belief that good things can still grow after hard seasons.
